The day was beautiful; ___ couldn’t keep her eyes away from the window. Her eyes followed loose leaves being chased by the wind. Soon she stopped on a few flowers blowing in the wind almost taunting her to come out as well. A content sigh left her lips as someone opened a window letting a breeze in. A pleased smile crossed her lips as it gently rustled her hair.  The sounds of a bird reached her ears causing her eyes to switch to it. As it soared she wondered what it would be like to be a bird. So free, able to fly wherever they want, rushing wind in her f-

“___!” ___’s attention was turned to her teacher’s irritated face. For a moment ___ just stared for she had forgotten where she was… The stares of the students seem to bare holes in her but she remained calm. She’s in math, so the teacher is probably asking about the unanswered problem on the board… Quickly ___ skimmed it coming up with the answer to the problem.

“142,” ___ answered absently mindedly. It was very clear ___ hadn’t been paying attention but she got the answer right so the teacher couldn’t say anything. Unwillingly the teacher told ___ she was right then turned back around. The other students were all impressed but ___ could care less what they had to think.

For the rest of class the teacher left ___ alone and she spent it watching the outdoors. Once class was over ___ slowly gathered her things; she was in no rush. Besides it was the end of the day no point in hurrying. Unknown to her a pair of brown eyes had been watching her.

When ___ got to the door she bumped into someone, the only thing she saw was a student uniform so she assumed it was a fellow student. “I’m sorry,” she whispered looking up to meet brown eyes. Instantly a blush covered her face, the person she ran into just so happen to be Kiku Honda. The same boy she’s liked since he transferred here from Japan. He’d only been here for a few months but the two chatted every so often.

It didn’t seem Kiku was going to say anything, so ___ quietly excused herself. Although Kiku did have something to say he was just trying to recompose himself, ___ made him lose control of himself. She was just so cute. Sometimes she wondered if she jumped out on an anime but it was highly unlikely. “Ah ___-san wait,” Kiku called once he got ahold of himself.

Hearing her name ___ paused and slowly turned around while pulling her books closer to her. Every time she was around Kiku she felt nervous, probably because of her small crush. She constantly told herself there was nothing to worry about… Kiku wouldn’t judge her is she accidently made a fool of herself. Quietly she waited for Kiku to catch up and stared at him expectantly when he did.

With ___ staring at Kiku with those (e/c) eyes of her wasn’t making it any easier for him.  It was hard enough to ask at it was. “I… I, ah, my mother gave me two tickets to the aquarium in town… I don’t know who to give the other ticket to so she suggested I invited you to come with me. Would you want to come,” he asked nervously.

It took a moment for ___ to process what Kiku had said to her. Once it did she slowly nodded her head almost shouting yes but was able to calm herself. “I’d love to,” ___ said with an extending smile. The two made plans to go the next day and meet there.

The walk home ___ was in a good mood. She skipped almost the whole way home because of her plans with Kiku. A small part of her was worried they wouldn’t have anything to talk about but they had similar interests. They usually talked about anime or manga they both liked.

---

A little eager ___ arrived 10 minutes early. While she waited she stood in front and observed her surroundings. The day was nice again with the slightest breeze. ___ stood there sighing contently, she really enjoyed being outdoors. Unfortunately she tended to remain blissfully unaware of her surroundings. A biker also wasn’t paying attention to where he was going, which just to happen to be right to where ___ was standing.

One moment ___ was enjoying a breeze looking at the clouds the next she was being pulled into someone. Behind her she felt a rush of air go by and a relieved sigh blow over her head. She looked up to meet a pair of brown eyes once again. Realizing the position they were in the two quickly separated their cheeks tinting red. “I’m sorry,” ___ muttered.

“I-It’s fine… Just pay attention to your surroundings from now on please… You could get hurt,” Kiku responded. ___ nodded slightly in agreement a little embarrassed. The two silently made their way to the entrance. ___ managed to glace at Kiku to see what he looked like without his school uniform on.

Honestly… He looked good. His black hair looked neater then usual and had a shine ___ hadn’t noticed before. The white button up shirt he wore made him look more mature. Over his shirt he wore a light button up sweater that made ___ want to cuddle him. Catching herself staring ___ quickly looked away her cheeks tinting pink.

The inside of the aquarium was cool and practically made entirely of glass. It was like a maze; the glass was over their heads and on both sides of them. A map was placed near the entrance to keep people from getting lost. ___ grabbed one to be on the safe side. It also included information on each fish placed in the aquarium. Kiku held one side of it while ___ held the other to read about a few of the fish.

“Oh look,” ____ exclaimed while pointing to a fish. “It’s one of the Rainbowfish. It’s so pretty,” ____ commented with a smile. Soon ___ let go of the map and became fully engrossed with the fish. Happily she walked up and down the glass observing the fish. Every so often she would point one out to Kiku and guess which on it was. He would look at the map and tell her if she was right or not, almost every time she was.

While ___ enjoyed herself Kiku just followed where she walked. It was seeing ___ in a whole new light for him. During class she was quiet, submissive and didn’t show many emotions; she wasn’t quite there mentally all the time either. Still she was very smart even though she only half pay attention. Now she was talkative with a bright happy face.

The pair decided to take a break to get some ice cream while walking around the park surrounding the aquarium. As ___ walked she took in the detail of the sidewalk. The sidewalk was a normal color but every so often drawings appeared. All though out the park chalk hung on a pole every few yards. Next to it there was signs encouraging people to draw on the sidewalks.

It was apparent most of the drawings were done by children; scribbled with many colors. It brought a smile to ___’s face seeing all the drawings. One in particular caught her attention. There was a stick figure girl frowning standing alone while a group of other stick figures enjoyed themselves. ___ stopped to stare at it blankly. Suck a simple drawing but understanding throbbed throughout her.

Curious Kiku stopped and watched ___. He was usually very good at telling what at person was thinking but ___ was unreadable at the moment. For a moment he considered asking her if something was wrong but decided to wait and see. Short moments later ___ grabbed a piece of chalk and began adding to the image. ___ was sitting in a way that blocked Kiku’s view so he waited.

The drawing now had a girl that looked very similar to ___ sitting with the stick figure girl smiling at her. ___ even changed the girl’s frown into a small smile. Underneath ___ wrote in neat letters, “You’re not alone.” With a smile at the end. Once ___ was standing again Kiku looked at her for an explanation.

“I’ve always felt the same,” ___ began slowly. “In the beginning I thought I didn’t have any friends because I was too weird… I tried to change myself. I did for a while and did gain a few friends but,” she paused looking towards the sky, “the longer I did the worst I felt… I wasn’t being me.” ___ looked towards Kiku with a small smile, “I realized that it wasn’t worth having a friend if they didn’t accept me for me. No one has been able to yet, but… I’m okay with that.”

It never occurred to Kiku that ___ never have any friends. To him she seemed like the person to have many friends. What Kiku did next surprised even himself. He pulled ___ in for a tight hug whispering, “I’m so sorry.” Even though ___ had a small smile on her face he could see the pain behind it. The pain of never being accepted, or having a shoulder to lean on for the things you couldn’t discuss with parents, like you’ll never belong anywhere. It was something he knew well himself.

___ didn’t process what Kiku was doing for a moment. Slowly she placed her arms around his torso and buried her face in his chest. The words that left Kiku's were very faint and ___ almost missed what Kiku had said. But the words were enough to bring tears of happiness to her eyes and tighten her grip.

“You’re not alone.”
Woo! I got inspired by a post on tumblr for this. This person said, "Don’t ever take me on a date to an aquarium because i will ignore you and spend the whole time looking at the fish."
Then someone else added, "But, if you think about it, that’s all the more reason to go. The person you’re dating gets to sit back and watch you smile and have fun. All the while, he/she’s falling deeper in love with you."
I thought it was really cute.

Any who I hope you enjoyed the story and thank you for reading. :aww:
